The Toku-P platform was developed to address a common issue faced by drivers in Japan: difficulty finding available parking spaces, especially in congested areas, and high parking fees. The client's goal was to introduce an innovative service that would allow users to search for parking spaces, make reservations, and optimize the overall parking experience across Japan. As the Lead Product Designer, I was responsible for designing the user experience and interface, leading a multidisciplinary team to ensure the project met the client’s high standards for functionality and performance.
The primary challenge users faced was that even when they located a parking lot, it was often fully occupied or prohibitively expensive. This led to driver frustration, wasted time, and increased traffic in already busy areas. Additionally, parking lot owners struggled to maximize the utilization of their spaces. Our client envisioned a comprehensive solution to bridge the gap between users and parking lot providers, offering a seamless experience that would benefit both parties.
We developed a robust and intuitive platform that leverages advanced search algorithms and a large database of parking options (around 48,000 entries). The key to this solution was implementing a search feature that allowed users to filter based on multiple criteria such as car type, reservation time, location, and pricing. My team and I focused on delivering a user-centered design, ensuring that the interface was simple and effective for users to find, compare, and book parking spaces.
The system's backend was built to handle the complexity of real-time searches across Japan. We integrated location-based services, real-time availability updates, and seamless payment processing to enhance the user experience. Our approach emphasized a smooth and consistent user journey, from the initial search to the reservation confirmation.
Toku-P quickly became a groundbreaking solution in Japan’s parking industry, driving growth for both users and parking lot owners. The platform not only improved accessibility to parking spaces but also fostered a win-win sharing economy. Drivers benefited from the convenience of reserving affordable parking spots in advance, while parking lot owners saw a significant increase in occupancy and profitability.
